WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM?
|
An ecosystem is a community of living and non-living things that interact together in a specific place:
|
We can find many different living things living in the same ecosystem and those organisms form groups. There are two types of groups: populations and communities.
- A POPULATION is a group of organisms that live together and belong to the same specie.
- A COMMUNITY is made up by all the populations that live together in the same place.
BIOSPHERE
The biosphere is made up of all the ecosystems of the Earth. It includes many different habitats and biomes.

- Habitat: a habitat is where a certain population lives. An ecosystem can be made up of different habitats, because different populations can share the same habitat. For example: in the jungle there are many different animal and plant populations that share the same space.
- Biome: a biome is an ecosystem with many types of habitats. In this sense, the biggest biome on Earth is the biosphere.
