CLASSIFICATION OF ECOSYSTEMS
|
There are many different types of ecosystems, but the most important ones are rainforests, ponds, woodlands, coasts, prairies and cities.
|
RAINFORESTS
It rains a lot on them, that is why there is a wide variety of plants. And if there is a wide variety of plants, there would be lots of animals too!

- Non-living things: the most characteristic ones are the soil, the heat, the rain (so there is a lot of water) and the sunlight. The soil is poor, but, because of the rain and the heat, lots of plants grow there.
- Living things: there are animals such as insects (ants, beetles, buttlerflies, spiders, termites,...), birds, monkeys, bats, panthers, snakes, sloths,...; and plants such as orchids, mosses, ferns, lots of different tree species,...
PONDS
They are small areas of water surrounded by land.

- Non-living things: water and soil are the most characteristic elements.
- Living things: there are animals such as dragonflies, ducks and turtles; and plants such as water lilies.
COASTS
Coast ecosystems are very special because they combine land and salt water.
Coast ecosystems are very special because they combine land and salt water.
- Non-living things: we can find salt water, rocks and sand. Beaches, cliffs and dunes are also very typical from the coast ecosystems.
- Living things: there are plants such as marine algae and dune grasses; and animals such as fish, seagulls, crabs, starfish,...
PRAIRIES
Prairies are very large and flat. We can find large prairies in many different places, such as South America, North America, Australia, Africa and Central Asia; that is why there is a wide variety of living things in prairies.

- Non-living things: the most important elements are the soil and, sometimes, rivers and lakes.
- Living things: the most important plants are the grasses and bushes. We can find a few trees there too. The most important animals are the zebras, rabbits, owls, foxes,...
WOODLANDS
They are usually flat, but they can also have hills, mountains and valleys.

There is a wide variety of cities: they can be big, little, on the coast, hilly, flat,...

- Non-living things: we can find buildings, roads and water.

Let's see some videos to learn more information about ecosystems.
On the first video you will watch some of the animals and plants that live in the rainforest.

On the second video you will watch the most important animals and plants in a pond.
On the third video you could watch some of the non-living and the living things we can find in a coastal ecosystem.
On the fourth video you could watch how a prairie (in this case, the african savannah) looks like.
On the fifth video, you could watch some of the most common animals that live in woodlands.
